Coya's Class

Welcome students! In wanting to make our class even more interactive, I've created this page to create discussions and to give you all a chance to comment and express yourselves. Please remember, that although this is an online forum, there are still rules and standards that must be met in order for this to continue, so please conduct yourselves accordingly. I look forward to a fantastic year and hope you strive to learn, participate and have fun!

Happy Constitution Day

September 17, 1787
That was the day that 39 delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the document that is still the law of the land today - Our Constitution!!
This year we celebrate its 223rd Birthday! And we celebrated with a bang and I hope you all continue to remember the importance of this day and the importance of this document.

In class we turned this blank canvas into one filled with Constitution Facts provided by each of the students...

In our Law Studies Class, we took Constitution Day to a whole other level.  Each student came to class as a delegate from the Constitutional Convention with their "ID Badge" on and created their very own party hat, filled with Constitution Facts, to celebrate the day.

Look at their creations...

Around the "circle" they presented themselves as we discussed whether or not they signed the Constitution.  We later went to the computer lab to transport back to the Constitutional Convention with the interactive module "Mr. Madison's Notes are Missing".

I had a lot of fun bringing Constitution Day to life and I hope you enjoyed it, too!  I'd love to hear about it, so be sure to leave a comment below.  May you always remember September 17th, Constitution Day...

September 11th - Never Forget

This week in class we commemorated the anniversary of September 11th.
I wanted to post some of things we worked on and created as a class and as a school.  Take a look...

I wanted to create something personal and symbolic so many students traced and cut their hands in red and white which were later put together to re-create the American flag...

Here's the finished product...
We also wanted to remember the victims, so we used the list of victims (almost 4000 of them) and displayed them within the symbol of the twin towers...

As a school, we created a memorial (through the social studies department) in the center by the office which came out beautiful.

A close up of some of our class contribution...

And today, the actual anniversary of September 11th and forever more, I hope you....

That was Then, This is Now

This past week we have been sharing our projects in our "show and tell" with one more class set to present on Tuesday. It has been tons of fun hearing all your stories, seeing all the pictures and actual items that many of you have brought in, and sharing what we've learned from this experience. I hope you've had a chance to even learn a little more about me, too! I'd love the sharing to continue so I want to know how you feel about this project and the show and tell. I also want to hear about your favorite, funniest, most surprising things that you've learned or come across in this project. Hope you all have a fun, long weekend! See you next week!

First Week...How's it Going?

So we made it through the 1st week of school!  For me, it's been absolutely wonderful seeing you all in my classes again!  It feels so great that we know each other and the classroom feels comfortable and fun.  As for our school, lots of changes still on the horizon, which is to be expected with our new 1500 student population!  So be ready for possible schedule changes and such this next week.

I'm excited to see what you all have learned from our project, "That was then, this is now..." and looking forward to show & tell this coming week!

As for my Law Studies students I love the way you all are getting into a "legal frame of mind" and looking forward to another great week this week!

But now I want to hear from you - how was your first week back to school?  What do you think of this school year?  Highlights? Favorites?
Time to share!
